Do I need a referral from my doctor to receive therapy?
No, in the State of Ohio you do not need a physician's referral to receive therapy services and the majority of health insurers will cover the cost of the service without a referral. It is our recommendation, that you contact your insurance company to see if a referral is required for payment.
Do I have to go to the therapy clinic my doctor referred me to?
Your referral for therapy may be used at the clinic of your choice. Some physicians have therapy clinics in their offices and would like you use their services. You do, however, have the right to choose where you receive your treatment. Simply let the doctor know that you will be receiving your care at Jaworski Physical Therapy, Inc. We will keep your doctor well informed on the findings of our evaluation and your progress with treatment.
How does Jaworski Physical Therapy, Inc. handle payment for services?
We will file all of your claims to your primary insurance carrier (provided that you give us all of the necessary information). You should contact your insurance company to determine your level of coverage, how many visits are covered, if authorization is required and the amount of your co-pay or deductible if any.
We will request that you pay any co-payments at time services are rendered. If you have an unmet deductible we will request that you make a payment toward meeting the deductible at each visit. We will issue you a receipt at that time, which will be your proof of payment. This receipt will be required if there is any dispute concerning whether a payment was made or not.
After reviewing your claim, your insurance carrier will determine if any additional payment is owed. You will receive an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from your insurance company showing any amount owed. Please send that amount immediately to Winckles Street office for processing.
Please remember that billing of insurance companies is a service that Jaworski Physical Therapy, Inc. provides. The ultimate financial responsibility for payment still relies with you.
How do I schedule an appointment?
Just call the office which is most convenient to you. We will answer all your questions and set up your appointment.
What if I have to cancel an appointment?
We take this subject very seriously at the clinic because it can make the difference between whether your treatment is successful or not. Normally, your referring physician or therapist will prescribe a frequency of treatments. Your therapist will allocate a certain amount of time in their schedule to work one on one with you during each visit. Arriving on time for each and every appointment allows your therapist to spend the necessary time with you ensure a successful treatment program. Failure to show or arriving late for your treatment can delay or limit your potential outcome. If for some unexpected reason you must cancel, please give us 24 hours notice.
How should I dress?
You should wear loose fitting clothing so you can expose the area that we will be evaluating and treating. For example, if you have a knee problem, it is best to wear shorts. For a shoulder problem, a tank top is a good choice, and for low back problems, wear a loose fitting shirt and pants, again so we can perform a thorough examination.
How long will each treatment last?
Treatment sessions typically last 30 to 60 minutes per visit.
How many visits will I need?
This is highly variable. You may need one visit or you may need months of care. It depends on your diagnosis, the severity of your impairments, your past medical history, etc. You will be re-evaluated on a monthly basis and when you see your doctor, we will provide you with a progress report with our recommendations.
Is physical therapy or occupational therapy painful?
For many patients, one of the primary objectives is pain relief. This is frequently accomplished with hands-on techniques, modalities such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation, and/or heat or cold therapy. Movement often provides pain relief as well. Your therapist will provide you with the appropriate exercises not only for pain relief but to recover range of motion, strength, and endurance.
In some cases, therapy techniques can be painful. For example, recovering knee range of motion after total knee replacement or shoulder range of motion after shoulder surgery may be painful. Your therapist will utilize a variety of techniques to help maximize your treatment goals. It is important that you communicate the intensity, frequency, and duration of pain to your therapist. Without this information, it is difficult for the therapist to adjust your treatment plan.
What happens if my problem or pain returns?
Flare ups are not uncommon. If you have a flare up (exacerbation), give us a call. We may suggest you come back to see us, return to your doctor, or simply modify your daily activities or exercise routine.
What will I have to do after physical or occupational therapy?
Some patients will need to continue with home exercises. Some may choose to continue with a gym exercise program. Others will complete their rehabilitation and return to normal daily activities. It is important that you communicate your goals to your therapist, so he/she can develop a custom program for you.
